Electoral Roll @stmarywarsash
What Is The Church Electoral Roll?
The Church electoral roll is the foundation of the whole structure of synodical government in the church. It contains the names and addresses of everyone who is allowed to attend and vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting in April each year.
Every six years each parish is required to prepare a completely new electoral roll and this last happened in 2019. The next complete revision will take place in 2025.
During each six year period an annual review takes place where revisions can be made. In 2021 the revision will take place between Monday 29th March 2021 and Sunday 11th April 2021.
During the period of revision of the roll, members already on the roll need do nothing, but people who wish to join the roll can apply during this period. People who apply to join the Roll during the period of review may then take part in and attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting to be held on 27th April 2021. People applying after 11th April 2021 will have their names entered on to the roll after the APCM on 27th April 2021.
A person applies by filling out an application for enrolment form which is downloadable from this page or available from the Electoral Roll Officer, Mrs Liz Simpson.
Any person entitled to attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting may raise any question of parochial or general church interest. By enrolling you become a voting member of the Church of England and so help to ensure that all the Synodical councils of the Church – the parochial church council, the deanery synod, the diocesan synod, and the General Synod – are fully representative of its members.
To be on the electoral roll a person needs to have been baptised, be at least 16 years old* and either:
• Living in the parish and a member of the Church of England or a Church in communion with the Church of England
• Not resident in the parish but is a member of the Church of England (or a Church with which the Church of England is in communion) and has regularly attended worship in the parish during the six months prior to enrolment
• A member in good standing of a Church which subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and they are prepared to declare themselves a member of the Church of England, having regularly attended worship during the six months prior to enrolment.
* Those who become 16 during the next 12 months may also complete the form, and will become eligible to be entered on the roll on their 16th birthday.
Once completed, forms can be returned electronically to Mrs Simpson on email@example.com
