Getting married at St.Mary's...
Congratulations on choosing to get married and we hope we can help you have a very memorable wedding in our beautiful church.
By coming to church for your marriage you are choosing to involve God from the beginning. We pray that your marriage will be blessed with the mutual love, honour and comfort which the service celebrates.
Information about getting married in the Church of England can be seen in the 'Life Events' tab of the www.cofe.anglican.org website. The wedding service can be found on that website if you search within it for 'marriage service'.
Please note that for registration purposes, one of you must live in have a strong connection with the parish of Hook with Warsash, or regularly worship at St.Mary's so you can be on the parish electoral roll. The parish boundary can be seen in blue if you zoom out on the MAP. The Law is changing in October 2008 to allow those with a strong connection in the parish to be married in the church.
To book a wedding please complete this new MARRIAGE MEASURE 2008 APPLICATION FORM and return it, either by email or post to the vicar (vicar.warsash(at)btinternet.com). It is a full form and if you have difficulty downloading it then please contact the vicar directly to receive one by post.
Once complete, the Vicar will be pleased to receive your form and will then contact you to discuss any matters and hope to arrange a meeting to formally book the wedding with you both. At that meeting a few more details will be taken, your questions answered, and you will be invited to our marriage preparation course called 'To Love and to Cherish' in advance of your wedding.
Remarriage: If one of you has been married before then it may still be possible for you to get married in church but you will need to discuss the circumstances with the vicar. If the marriage is not possible in church then he will happily introduce you to the very meaningful celebration of marriage following a civil ceremony. You can see the words at www.cofe.anglican.org if you search within the site using 'dedication civil service'.
Celebrating an Anniversary...
Congratulations on reaching a special anniversary in your marriage. There is a lovely service called 'A Thanksgiving for Marriage' which is designed to help you celebrate your marriage in church with a renewed commitment to your vows.
The words of the ceremony can be seen on the www.cofe.anglican.org website if you search within the site for 'Thanksgiving for Marriage'. It is ideal for your Silver, Golden or any other anniversary. Or for renewing vows on an anniversary years after a Civil Ceremony, when you want to give thanks to God.
If you would like to discuss such a celebration at St.Mary's with the vicar then he would be pleased to hear from you on 01489 572324 or vicar.warsash(at)btinternet.com
